Meet The Founders

                                                    Meet The Founders

Herbert and Nonie Salone are the founders of Homeland Arts. Homeland Art is known in the greater Chicagoland area. Their work was first displayed at the First Black Expo in Chicago, Illinois, in 1968. Later their idea was to assist African American students in their quest for knowledge by giving them a living piece of artwork representing their history in this country. The names of prominent African Americans in literature, science, athletics, business, the arts, and academia were placed on a wooden replica of the continent of Africa.

The plaque is still in schools in Chicago, Illinois, and Atlanta. The names placed thereon often became a source for term papers, black history month projects, group exercises, and solitary quests for knowledge. In that vein, the Family of Herbert & Nonie continue with their legacy!

The African American Flag was researched, created, and patented in early 2001 by Herbert the 3rd, son of Herbert and Nonie, CEO of HQE. The purpose is to become a new symbol of African American pride, cultural awareness, and historical significance in our community. The flag was first publicly seen and provided for sale at the 2001 Atlanta Black Expo.
